5 Common Dieting Mistakes

As the holiday season get closer and closer with every day that passes, many of you may think that you will not be able to keep your diet going while everyone around you makes a pig out of themselves. Believe it or not you can make your diet work all you have to do is avoid these common dieting mistakes and you will keep your diet on track.
Mistake number one is eating excessive amounts of fat free foods. Even though it is fat free, that doesn’t mean it is sugar free or calorie free. Much of the fat free foods on the market contain high numbers of calories. To lose the weight you need to concentrate on burning calories not just eating less fat grams.
Mistake number two is making an unrealistic weight lose goal. When you start a new weight loss plan you set a weight loss goal for yourself. If you set this goal too high at first you will lose sight of what you were aiming for in the beginning. This is because you get frustrated and give up after not seeing immediate results.
Mistake number three is very important and needs to be in your mind all the time. Not eating is one of the biggest mistakes you can make while dieting. If your body does not get the nutrients it needs to help burn calories it goes into what is called starvation mode. When your body goes in starvation mode you are unable to burn those calories, causing you to gain weight instead of losing it. To avoid starving yourself be sure to eat throughout the day, several small well balanced meals will help you out tremendously.
Mistake number four is also very important, not planning. Many people start a new diet in hopes to lose a few extra pounds. This is understandable but, if you start a diet to lose those few pounds and you don’t make long term plans on keeping it off, you are certain to gain that weight and then some back.
Mistake number five is exercising or lack thereof. If you are not exercising on a regular basis you are not helping your body. Exercise is good for everyone, even those who are not dieting. Exercise helps you burn unwanted calories, shed unwanted pounds, and be healthier than before. Take time to do some sort of exercise during the day, walk around the block, run up and down your stairs, play with the kids in the yard, whatever you deem fit for your lifestyle.
Avoid these five common dieting mistakes during and after your diet. Even just one of these mistakes will knock you off track and keep you from feeling healthy and fit. These mistakes are common for everyone, not just those on a long term diet, but for those on any type of diet and believe it or not those that don’t diet at all.
Remember, fat free foods are not always healthy, set a realistic goal that you can achieve, do not starve yourself to lose weight it doesn’t work, plan ahead, and exercise. Be happy and be healthy.
