With the world we live in today it is no wonder that all our teens feel as though they need to “fit it” with everyone else. They feel as though they have to shop at certain stores, walk a certain way, talk like everyone else, and not weigh any more than the girl sitting next her. This is not the way our teens should have to live their lives. So why do so many of our young girls turn to eating disorders just to fit in?

This is because as teens you want to be just like everyone else, the same way your parents wanted to fit in when they were your age. Unfortunately as teens you have a harder road ahead of you than your parents did. Many teens are turning to eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa so that they can lose weight, keep it off, and look just like the models in the magazines.

What is Anorexia?

Anorexia is a disorder that is a cause of low self esteem and the inability to cope with your problems. This disorder will make you limit yourself on what you can eat and this disorder will become an addiction. Once you start dropping pounds and you think people like you more because of it, you will find it harder to stop.

How do you become anorexic?

Becoming anorexic is a choice that many young girls make. Deciding that they need to lose weight and keep it off. For many of these girls to do this they begin watching what goes into their body, which may be good in one aspect but in another, young girls need all the nutrition they can get so skipping meals or being very careful of what they eat will harm them by depriving their bodies of the nutrients it needs to survive.

How you can overcome anorexia

Like many eating disorders there are ways to overcome it. All you need is a little will power, dedication, and loving family and friends. With the help of family and friends supporting you, you will be able to seek the amount of help you need to overcome this and be on your way to happier, healthier you.

Don’t get yourself down if your family and friends seem disappointed when you tell them what you have been doing. This is a natural reaction; just put yourself in someone else’s shoes, think of how you would respond if they were telling you they were dealing with anorexia.

The best thing you can do is talk to someone. If you have to tell you parents and then go talk to a psychiatrist do it. Don’t hold back on anything, if you try holding something in you won’t be able to overcome this condition. Go talk to someone so you can be happy and healthy, with no worries about what people think about you. Most of all do this for yourself so you can the person you know you are inside.
