The condition of man boobs is becoming more and more common among the male population all around the world. Many men begin to see signs of man boobs at a very early age, some being as young as ten or eleven years old. Many of these men go through life not knowing what causes the appearance of breasts while others are finding ways to get rid of them. So, what does cause man boobs?

The medical term for “man boobs” or “moobs” is gynecomastia which is Greek for “man with breasts”. The physical signs of gynecomastia include puffy or oversized nipples, enlarged breasts, excessive fatty tissue in the chest or breasts, and a hormone imbalance with either too little testosterone or too much estrogen. Not all signs will coexist with one another.

Gynecomastia can occur for numerous reasons with the age of a male being a key factor. Many times young males will see signs of man boobs due to a temporary hormone imbalance; this hormone imbalance usually passes with puberty. Many of the adult males that notice signs of man boobs may also have a hormone imbalance that could happen naturally or from certain medications. No matter what age a male is when he begins to notice man boobs there is a level of embarrassment that, if not treated, could have severe psychological effects.

If a man is over weight the odds of seeing man boobs is higher than normal. . If this is the case the male should seek medical advice about losing the excess weight and losing the man boobs. If diet and exercise doesn’t do the trick someone could result to surgery. The surgery would remove the fatty tissue in the chest. If someone decides this option is for them, then cost, scarring and recovery time should be considered.

If hormone imbalance is the cause of man boobs, then working toward a proper balance of testosterone and estrogen is a must. There are medical products available. However, with pharmaceutical products one must accept the risks associated with recalls, side effects, human error in diagnosing, packaging and dispensing.
