Few people, very few people, are able to lead stress free lifestyles. In fact, I have yet to meet one person over the age of fifteen that has little to no stress. Did you know that stress can lead to more health problems? Stress leads to more than just headaches and high blood pressure, stress can and will eventually lead to death. As hard as it is to believe this is a true statement. The more stress you have in your life, the higher risk you have for getting sick.

Here are six more health effects that stress can have on your life, if you don’t do something about it soon.

Weight gain is probably the number one health effect stress will bring you. As you probably know once you gain weight it becomes harder to be motivated to lose it. With your stress level ever increasing you should know that the worst thing you can do is turn to food. If you begin to gain weight a slow rate you may be fine, yet at the same time the more weight you gain the more chance you have of developing heart problems, higher blood pressure, diabetes, and liver disease to name a few.

If you begin to gain weight rapidly you should hit the gym. Exercise is good for your health in more than one way. While exercising you burning calories, shedding unwanted pounds, and lowering your stress level. So go for it, hit the gym and be healthy and happy.

Diabetes can occur when the body is unable to produce enough insulin to process the sugars in your body. The longer these sugars build up in your body the more susceptible you will be to experience increased thirst, headaches and possibly weight loss. The longer these build up and you continue to experience these health problems then you are putting yourself at a higher risk of stroke, kidney disease, eye damage, and gastrointestinal problems.

Heart disease is also a health risk when you have a higher level of stress than usual. Stress can and will cause heart attacks. This is due to stress contributing to the buildup of plaque in your arteries. As the arteries begin to narrow, your heart has to pump blood harder to distribute to the rest of your body.

Cancer is another stress related illness. Although a link between the two has not yet been proven, it is said that stress can cause cancer. This is due to stress making the immune system weak, allowing possible cancerous tissues to develop. If you begin to feel as though stress is causing your system to break down, please seek help. A physician will be able to help you cope with this feeling and even tell you if you feeling this way may be due to a cancer development or not.

Depression is also caused by stress. The longer you stress about something the more you begin to feel hopeless about something. If you stress about work take time to relax. Don’t let your stress from work or even home bring to the point of depression. If you begin to feel depressed about something talk to your doctor, he will be able to tell you what will be best for you as far as a medication or a nice way to relax.

High blood pressure is known as the silent killer. This is because there are few signs or symptoms of this disease. High stress levels can lead you to this condition, with this condition may come aneurysms, heart disease, and damage to the brain.

Take time to learn more about stress and how it can affect your life. If you feel as though you must seek professional help, don’t hold back. Talk to your doctor before you begin any type of stress relieving act. Even if you feel as though a spa is a way to relax, you still need to talk to your physician. Lastly, don’t dwell on one thing for too long. The longer you think about what is going on at work or at home the higher chance you have of being susceptible to one of the diseases listed above. Be happy. Be healthy.
