If you are trying to shed a few unwanted pounds, you should know the right types of food to eat and which ones to shy away from. Any time you start a new diet you should eat healthy and eating healthy starts with giving up the fast food and soda.

Fast food contains a high number of calories as do carbonated drinks. By reducing your intake of these calories you will begin to shed those unwanted pounds and get the dream body you have always wanted.

Eating foods such as fish, vegetables, fruits, sunflower or pumpkin seeds, and nuts will get you on the right track to a healthy lifestyle. Drinking any beverage that is not carbonated will also help you get on track and stay on track. Juice and water are the drinks you should try with you new found diet, because juice and water have few or no calories at all, you are able to drink as much as you prefer.

One thing you should remember is that fad diets are not always the way to go. While some offer losing the weight before swimsuit season gets here, yet you may not always see those results that soon, others don’t promise any results at all.

Fad diets tend to cause fatigue and high blood pressure and in no way is this good for your health. Many of these fad diets say you can eat as much meat as you would like, you just shouldn’t have any breads because bread contains too many carbohydrates. Your body needs these carbohydrates because they fuel energy, without energy you feel tired and irritable. In other words these diets are not something you should try.

Low-fat diets can be the same way. While you may be eating something that is low-fat, it has been loaded with lots of extra sugars and other sweeteners to give it the taste you desire. Try your best to stay away from these diets too, as they may cause you to gain weight as opposed to losing it.

Instead of trying a fad diet or a low-fat diet, you should keep track of your calorie intake. Many products will give you the total fat, sodium, protein, and calorie counts on the nutrition label on the back of the product. Usually these are given in two sections, one containing all the information and another for the 2000 calorie a day diet. Try to stick to the 2000 calorie a day diet section, as this will help you keep track of your calorie intake on a daily basis, thus helping you stay healthy and fit.
