It is quite possible that you have had several astral projection in your lifetime, however you would only remember them as dreams. It is not only possible but highly likely that some of your more realistic dreams actually you taking an astral journey, or having an out of body experience.

The most effective way to learn how to astral project at will, is to keep a dream journal. In order to understand our dreams we must first remember them, and the most effective way to do this is to keep a dream diary.

I find it is best to have a notebook or pad by my bed at all times, this notepad is used only to record my dreams in and never leaves my bedside. No matter what time of the night I wake up at I can record my dreams straightaway and not risk losing them while I am looking for a pen and paper.

Before you get out of bed in the morning, you should close your eyes and try to remember the dreams you had during the night. As your dreams made up of a series of images, you will be able to trigger the entire series just by remembering one single image. Remembering how you are feeling during a dream can also help and is very important to note in your dream diary.

It is important that you write your dream diary before you do anything else in the morning. Try to include as much detail as possible even the parts that don't seem to be relevant or make sense at the moment. Writing in the present tense will also make the dreams seem more immediate. Once you have written down the basic memories from the dream you can begin to add to it and flesh it out.

Overtime you will become much better at remembering your dreams and writing them in your dream journal, you will also be able to make better associations. You can keep track of objects or people that make regular appearances in your dreams. You can also see if you have dreams at certain times, such as when you are stressed, or when you're happy. You should be able to notice patterns in your dreams.

If you really want to learn how to control your astral projections, keeping track of your dreams is the best way to do this. Having control over your out of body experiences is not something that you will gain straight away, but if you practise and keep thorough records it will happen.

The language of dreams is one of metaphor and symbol. The symbol may appear to be straightforward, other times it may also be completely confusing. The significance of these dream symbols ranges from person to person, and also within a person as they gain new experiences. It is these symbols and metaphors that you need to record in order to learn how to control your astral projection.
